Why It Matters

When managers struggle, the business feels it everywhere.

Most companies are working hard to grow, serve customers, retain good people, and execute well. But even strong strategies stall when leaders are not aligned, managers are stretched thin, communication is inconsistent, or teams lack clear accountability. Leadership development helps close that gap so people can lead with more confidence, clarity, and follow-through.

56%

of managers worldwide have never received formal management training. More than half are asked to lead people with no preparation for the job.

Gallup, State of the Global Workplace 2025
1 in 2

employees have left a job at some point in their career specifically to get away from a manager. People rarely quit companies — they quit bosses. That makes retention a leadership problem, not a pay problem.

Gallup
94%

of employees say they would stay at a company longer if it invested in their development. Retention isn't bought with perks — it's built with growth.

A toxic workplace culture is ten times more predictive of employee turnover than compensation. Culture isn't set by the handbook — it's built daily by how managers lead their teams.

50%–200%

of an employee's annual salary can be spent replacing them when they leave — and Gallup calls that estimate conservative. Every departure a better manager prevents goes straight to your bottom line.

The opportunity is practical: develop the people who directly shape the employee experience every day. Stronger managers create clearer expectations, better follow-through, more trust, and healthier teams.

About Melissa Boucher

President & Owner, LeadWell Advising

I built LeadWell Advising for organizations that want stronger leaders, healthier teams, and a practical way to turn leadership development into real business progress.

For more than 20 years, I have worked alongside business owners, executives, founders, and managers as a COO, consultant, operator, and leadership advisor. I understand the pressure leaders face because I have sat on the business side of the table.

My background spans healthcare, technology, education, nonprofit, professional services, and growth-stage organizations. I have led teams through change, built operational systems, supported acquisitions, improved execution, and helped leaders navigate the people issues that quietly shape performance.

That experience is what makes LeadWell practical. I do not approach leadership development as theory. I focus on the daily behaviors that change how managers communicate, coach, make decisions, create accountability, and build trust.

My goal is simple: help good managers become stronger leaders so the business runs better and people are proud to be part of the team.

How It Works

A practical leadership development process built around real managers, real teams, and real business pressure.

LeadWell Advising works with companies that want manager development to create visible behavior change — not just an inspiring workshop that fades a week later.

The process combines facilitated learning, peer discussion, action planning, and real-world follow-through so managers practice new skills with the teams they already lead.

Who It's For

Best fit: companies where manager effectiveness is directly tied to performance, retention, and growth.

Growing companies that need managers and leaders to communicate clearly, make better decisions, and keep teams moving as the business evolves.

Leadership teams across Massachusetts — with a focus on Greater Boston and surrounding communities — who want local, hands-on development, not another webinar their managers will multitask through.

Owners and executives seeing the symptoms — turnover, stalled projects, teams waiting to be told what to do — and ready to fix the cause.

Common Questions

The things executives usually want to know before we talk.

Why does leadership development matter?

Because almost every business result runs through your managers. Research from Gallup finds that the manager accounts for 70% of the difference in team engagement — which drives retention, productivity, and profitability. The reverse is also true: unsupported managers create turnover, confusion, and stalled progress. I watched that pattern play out for twenty years before starting LeadWell. See the research →

How does the work typically happen?

We start with your business goals and the leadership behaviors that most need to improve. From there, managers work on practical skills such as communication, accountability, coaching, decision-making, conflict resolution, and leading through change.

How is this different from training we've tried before?

Most leadership training is an event — one energizing day, then old habits return. My approach is built around application, accountability, and consistent practice so managers use what they learn with their actual teams.

And you're not buying a program off a shelf. You're working with me, locally — and I've spent twenty years on your side of the table.

How much time does this take away from my managers' jobs?

The time commitment depends on the format we choose together. The goal is to make development practical for working managers, not pull them away from the business for a classroom retreat.

Who should we enroll?

The managers whose leadership most directly affects your results: newly promoted managers leading for the first time, experienced managers who never got formal development, and high-potential team members you're preparing for bigger roles — from front-line supervisors to senior leaders.

What is the investment?

Investment depends on the scope, number of managers, and format. In a 20-minute conversation, I can give you a straight answer on whether this makes sense for your company and what a realistic next step would look like. If it's not a fit, I'll tell you that too.

Can we see it in action before committing?

Yes — that's exactly how I like to work. I offer a free Leadership Skills Workshop for your management team: a real training session on a real leadership skill, at no cost and with no obligation. You see how the program works, your managers walk away with something useful, and then you decide.

Let's Talk

The fastest way to find out if this is worth exploring: a 20-minute leadership fit conversation.

A practical conversation, no pressure. I'll share a bit about me, hear about your team, and show you how the program works. If it's not the right fit, I'll tell you that too. Prefer to see the training in action first? Ask me about the free Leadership Skills Workshop for your team.

You’ll talk directly with Melissa — not a sales team, not a call center. A real conversation with someone who has spent 20+ years inside businesses helping leaders solve operating and people challenges.

What you can expect from me:

  • A straight answer — including “this isn't the right fit,” if it isn't.
  • Your time respected — 20 minutes means 20 minutes.
  • Practical next steps — whether that means a workshop, a leadership conversation, or no action for now.
